Paraeducator certification brings benefits, new career paths

Community colleges have a big part in educating Iowa's next paraeducators through the courses they offer. Both individuals highlighted in this article received their certification through courses offered by Indian Hills Community College. 

Customized training: the hidden gem

Iowa's community colleges have always had a helping hand in strengthening Iowa's workforce with much of this coming from partnerships with local employers. Through customized training courses, employers can recruit, retain and promote workers by upskilling. Iowa community college tuition is up 3.6% this year, report shows

While tuition makes up a smaller portion of community college income, in 2024, the average credit hour is $198.15, and the average mandatory fees are $15.13. Executive Director of Community Colleges for Iowa, Emily Shields, comments on the ability of community colleges to keep up with inflation while still keeping school affordable for their students.
