February 26-March 1, Leadership in Action Week
In 2024, we are hosting the first annual Community College Leadership in Action Week. While the events will feel familiar, we are packaging them together for one cohesive week of events. These events include the Student Legislative Seminar, PTK, and Community College Day on the Hill. See below for schedules and agendas!

February 26 Student Legislative Seminar
This event will be held at the Curate, located at 322 E Court Ave, Des Moines, IA 50309.

11:30 am - Students may begin to arrive. Lunch will be ready upon arrival.

11:55 am - Welcome message by Executive Director Emily Shields.

12:25 pm - Discussion of Legislative Priorities/Advocacy

12:50 pm - Transition/Break

1:00 pm - Legislative Panel Q/A

2:00 pm - Students may visit internships booths, voter registration booths, and have 1:1 discussions with the state legislators before they leave

2:30 pm - Monique Ellefson, Director of Strategic Initiatives, will lead the students in a Spectrum of Allies activity

3:30 pm - Call to action by Emily Shields.

February 27 Community College Day on the Hill
7:00 am - Arrive at the Capitol to unload materials for table and begin set-up
7:30 am - Legislators begin to arrive to visit with students
8:30 am - House begins session, introduce CC students
9:00 am - Senate begins session, introduce CC students
12:00 pm - Begin packing up
March 22, 19th Annual Diversity Conference
Join as at Indian Hill's 19th Annual Diversity Conference held at their Ottumwa campus. Speakers include Erica Carter and Ken Nwadike Jr.
July 10-11, Summer Trustee Conference and Governance Leadership Institute
This year's event will be hosted by Hawkeye Community College at their Adult Learning Center in Waterloo, Iowa.
